RICHTER: THE ENIGMA

Bruno Monsaingeon wrote and directed this 144-minute French documentary about the Russian pianist Sviatoslav Richter who died on August 1, 1997. Black and white performance clips from the 1930s are combined with later Mosfilm color footage, while Richter's personal story is revealed in digital video interviews filmed two years before his death.

At the end of his life - he died on August 1, 1997 - the great Russian pianist agreed to speak to Bruno Monsaingeon in front of a camera. In a conversation with fascinating archive material, Richter presents us with his memoirs from Beyond the Grave. This film consists of two seventy-seven minute episodes and leaves a lasting impression.
